If you are looking to travel close to home a six-night Globus Family of Brands,  Bourbon, Bridles, and Blue Grass Tour would be an exciting way to see this exciting and beautiful part of the United States.

A few years ago when the University of Oklahoma played Ohio State football, prior to the game we did a customized Globus Family of Brands,  Bourbon, and Bridles Tour.   Our customized tour started in Louisville, Kentucky where we did bourbon tasting and thoroughbred viewing at several distilleries and ranches.

Our tour combined two of Kentucky’s most treasured icons: bourbon and Thoroughbreds.  It was fun to learn fun facts about why horse racing and bourbon go together, including what makes a Thoroughbred a Thoroughbred, and a bourbon a bourbon.  We visited several distilleries sampling their bourbon while we picked up facts about distillery owners who have also won the Derby, and how some guests imbibed on Derby day during Prohibition.

When we visited Church Hill Downs, we had breakfast with the jockeys and stood at the fence when the trainers raced their horses past us.  I could only imagine the sound of the horses as they thundered by during the Kentucky Derby.

The Church Hill Downs tour ended inside the Museum’s Derby Café Express, an official stop on Louisville’s Urban Bourbon Trail, where once again we enjoyed bourbon tasting along with an interactive lesson on how to make and enjoy the famous Mint Julep.

On my bucket list is to go to the Kentucky Derby sporting a frilly hat and drinking a Mint Julep.
